World's Biggest Candles


Candles come in all shapes and sizes. They can be made from a variety of materials including paraffin, beeswax, soya, tallow etc. Scented Candles are candles which are fragranced with essential oils, they release their scent as they burn. Candles are used for different purposes and at different times like birthdays, Christmas, religious ceremonies, during bath times etc. These are the everyday candles we are most familiar with.

Below are the Biggest Candles from around the world:

1. The largest Hanukkah Candle was built in 2006 and consisted of 5000 individual candles containing 3.5 tons of wax in different colours. The Candle was placed in the Pisga Mall in Jerusalem and measured 8.5m high and 85cm wide.

2. The world's Largest Candle was built in 2009 at the Christmas market in Schlitz, Germany in the shape of a castle keep. It is made of stone and measures 36m in height. It is covered with a red cloth measuring more than 1000sqm in length. About 140 bulbs are fitted to form the flame, measure 6m in height.

3. The Scappoose Peace Candle was built in 1971 in Oregon, USA, and measures 50 foot in height and 18 foot in width. The candle has an electric neon light flame and was at one time held the Guinness World Record for the world's largest candle.
 

4. The Candle displayed at the General Art and Industrial Exhibition of Stockholm in 1897 was supposedly 80 feet in height and 8 feet 6 inches in width.

5. The Enrico Caruso Memorial Candle was built by the Ajello Candles company in 1921 in memory of their close friend Enrico Caruso. The candle was said to be 18 feet in height and weighted one ton. It was claimed the candle would burn for 1800 years, commemorating Enrico's birth date.

6. The Warm Glow Candle is situated in Centerville Indiana and actually forms a part of the Warm Glow Store. The store is renowned for its candles and other products and the Warm Glow Candle brings visitors from far and wide.
 

7. The world's tallest Finnish Candle is 4m high and was built by 23 year old Thomas Rindisbacher in a small Swiss village outside Bern.

8. The world's largest Havdalah candle in Israel. Havdalah is a Jewish ritual that takes place at the end of the Shabbat. The Havdalah candle is a special type of candle that is braided with several wicks.

9. World's Largest Virgin Mary Mosaic Candle was built in 2004 by artist Jesse Trevino in San Antonio, Texas, USA. The mosaic is a 40 feet tall replica of the Virgin of Guadalupe candle with an eternal flame on top.

10. The Yankee Candle is situation in the South Deerfield shop in Massachusetts, USA for over 20 years and is made of 1,377 pounds of wax and 6 feet of wick. It is claimed that it can burn for 64,652 hours or 71/2 years.
Not the biggest candles, these two need an honourable mention for their uniqueness.
