  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 4 tsp baking soda
Combine sugar and corn syrup in a medium sized saucepan. Over medium heat boil until sugar dissolves. Continue cooking without stirring to hard crack stage (use candy thermometer).

Remove from heat. Quickly stir in baking soda. Mix well. Move quickly - at this point the mixture will "grow" and form the sponge quality. Pour into greased 9" x 9" pan. Cool to set.

Due to the high temperatures when making candy parental supervision is needed. Candy mixtures often burn and smoke out so some caution is needed.
