When we were kids my mom couldn't afford to buy our costumes so she got creative....
My sister went as a bookworm. My mom dressed her in a green sweat suit. My mom cut the leg off a pair of green pantyhose and cut a holes in it for mouth, eyes, and nose.
She left a little on the top of her head loose. She then cut arm and leg holes in a cardboard box. We spray painted the box blue and my mom attached a large piece of paper to the front and gave the "book" a title.
She made a pair of large cardboard glasses and painted them red. It was adorable and she won first prize in the parade.
