Father's Day

Definition: Many Catholics call St. Joseph's Day, on March 19, Father's Day because Joseph was the father of Jesus.

Most people celebrate the modern version of Father's Day as a time to honor Dad.

It began in the United States. Some say Mrs. John Dowd of West Virginia began it to honor her father who raised his family after his wife died.

Others say it was launched in Spokane, Washington in June 1910 by Mrs. John Bruce Dodd.

It is celebrated on the third Sunday in June.
