Make these fun, personalized Valentine Sun Catchers for Valentine's Day
Note: Because you will be using a hot glue gun, parental supervision is required.
What you Need:
- Hot Glue Gun
- Glue sticks [colored optional]
- Waxed Paper
- Liquid Dish soap
- Acrylic paints
- Paint brushes
- String or fishing line
Place a piece of waxed paper on sturdy surface. Spread a thin layer of liquid dish soap on waxed paper.
Warm up glue gun with glue stick inserted. On waxed paper, create outlines of hearts and other Valentine shapes with hot glue. You can also do words or names. Work slowly.
Make sure outline is thick enough, you may have to go over the outline twice with glue. Allow to dry.
Once your outlines are completely dry paint with acrylic paints in Valentine colors.
You can paint each outline one color or add different colors to each outline. Allow to dry.
This step can be ignored if you are using colored glue sticks.
Once paint is completely dry carefully remove outlines from waxed paper. They may appear stuck, however they can be gently pulled off from the greased waxed paper.
Trim any excess glue strands from outlines. Glue your outlines together with hot glue.
Use your creativity to create different designs layered together.
Allow your completed project to dry thoroughly. Tie a string or fishing line to top of your design and hang in a window.
The sun shining through your sun catcher will bring out the different colors.
You can also add more hot glue to the back of the design to create a stained glass effect. To do this, float your design upside down in a bowl of water and add hot glue to back of your project. Allow to dry, then hang.
These make a fun Valentine gift that you can personalize with your Valentines name.
