Grass Roots Effort Initiated to Get Kids Active

(Indianapolis, IN) – Discovery Girls magazine and Fundex Games have joined forces, kicking off a nationwide effort to encourage kids to get active.

On National Jump Out! Day, kids (and adults!) are asked to grab a jump rope and hop to it! March 20th – the first day of spring – is the day for girls and boys to jump-start their way into a more active lifestyle by gathering friends and family and seeing how many times in a row each person can jump without stopping. Any kind of jump will do, from a simple hop to a Double Dutch or Criss-Cross step. Or, they can jump into another activity that pumps up the heart, like biking, skating, or playing tag – the idea is to get off the couch and on the road to good health.

“Our magazine has always been a way for girls to connect with each other, so they know they’re not alone,” said Catherine Lee, publisher of Discovery Girls magazine. “We see this as another way to connect girls all across the country, with a goal of helping them take the lead in getting themselves – and their families – more fit. We want to make it an annual event, where girls see each other having tons of fun being active and getting strong. It fits in perfectly with our belief that girls can be great role models for each other.”

To help promote this event, Discovery Girls is featuring the Jump Out! contest in its February/March issue. Fundex Games will publicize the contest on packages of its Hot Ropes Jump Ropes. Participants will jump for joy if they are lucky enough to win one of the many prizes, including jump ropes, Fab Girls Guides books, iPods, or, best of all, being featured in Discovery Girls magazine!
