'Freedom is Drug Free - Plant the Promise!' is this year's national Red Ribbon theme,
sponsored by the National Family Partnership.
The National Family Partnership, formerly, the National Federation of Parents
for a Drug Free Youth, is voice for parents and families on drug and alcohol
prevention issues.
The Red Ribbon campaign started in 1986. Every October 23rd - 31st, more than
80 million young people and adults show their commitment to
a healthy, drug-free life by wearing or displaying the Red Ribbon.
This year the theme 'Freedom is Drug Free - Plant the Promise' encourages children to
plant tulip bulbs on national 'Plant the Promise' day, October 23, 2002, as part of Red
Ribbon Week.
You can show your support for a drug free America by planting bulbs that will bloom into
vibrant red, white and blue flowers. Planted on October 23, your flowers will bloom in
April.
Kids' Turn Central encourages you to talk to your parents, grandparents and friends
about participating in this worthwhile program. Help get the message out, 'Freedom is Drug Free'.
Red, white and blue 'Stars and Stripes' patriotic bulb packages and 'Classic Red'
bulb packages have been created to help parents, schools, businesses, churches
and other community organizations become involved in this year's Red Ribbon Week
festivities.
A portion of all sales from bulb packages will go towards The National
Family Partnership’s drug prevention programs.
Parents can order your bulbs online at Tulip World.
Because bulbs are products of nature and are not manufactured they must be
reserved before they are harvested. Please order before July 15th to
ensure the highest quality bulbs are picked for Red Ribbon Week. All orders received prior
to July 15th are eligible to win prizes.
