Arm & Hammer Baking Soda®’s “Search for the Kid with the Sharpest Taste Buds.”
PRINCETON, N.J., April 18, 2005 – Ice cream cones, cold lemonade, fresh strawberries – ah, the sweet tastes of summer. With school almost out, kids across America will be raiding refrigerators everywhere in search of hot weather favorites. But does your refrigerator keep flavors tasting like they should? The experts at the ARM & HAMMER ® Fridge-n-Freezer® Good Taste Labs have a pretty strong hunch that kids can tell the difference. In fact, they’ve launched the challenge of a lifetime as they search for “The Kid with the Sharpest Taste Buds.”
“Everyone knows that kids are the best judges of knowing when foods taste like they should,” said Ray Brown, a.k.a. “The Taste Titan” at Arm & Hammer’s Good Taste Labs. “The search will be a fun and engaging opportunity for kids to show off their superior tasting skills. It will also serve as a reminder to moms that they need to take care in managing odors in their refrigerators and freezers to ensure that foods taste like they should.”
Think your child has the taste buds of champions? Then try their skills with the “At-Home Taste Bud Audition” which will give their taste buds a workout and prepare them to compete for a place at the national finals in New York City.
“Limbering up your taste buds and stretching your yummy muscle is not something to be taken lightly,” said AnnaSophia Robb, star of the upcoming movie “Charlie and The Chocolate Factory” and official “Taste Buddy” of the Good Taste Labs. “The coming spring/summer season promises to be a great one for kids to get out and enjoy more flavors. From popsicles to popcorn, from hamburgers to hot dogs each kid needs to be at the top of their taste game.” To do that, the flavor gurus at Arm & Hammer Good Taste Labs have given us kids a way to warm up their savor skills by taking the “At-Home Taste Bud Audition.”
Taking the Audition
This simple trial consists of three experiments that test all the taste buds
Telling one sweet flavor from another is one of the tongue’s primary duties and the first test, “Flavor Fluency,” will challenge kids’ ability to distinguish nuances in ice cream flavors. “Sweet-n-Salty Sleuth,” the second test from The Good Taste Labs will dare kids to identify the difference between salty and sweet. The final experiment of the “At-Home Taste Bud Audition” will challenge kids to identify different levels of sweetness. Those who successfully complete the final experiment earn the title of “Sweets Master” and are encouraged to put their taste buds to the test nationally by entering the “Kid with the Sharpest Taste Buds” Contest.
Entering the Contest
Kids between the ages of 8-12 are eligible to enter the Arm & Hammer contest. Each participant should submit an essay of 100 words or less on why they have the sharpest taste buds and describing the taste sensation of their favorite food to the ARM & HAMMER® Fridge-n-Freezer® Good Taste Labs. Five finalists will be chosen and flown to New York City for the finals event, hosted by AnnaSophia Robb, star of the hit movie “Because of Winn Dixie” and the upcoming “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
Moms and dads should visit: Arm & Hammer Good Taste Labs for an official entry form and more information. Entries should be submitted before midnight July 31, 2005.
