PA based toy company launches Guitar Hero Carabiner at Toy Fair 2008
Southampton, PA – A miniature version of the monster gaming sensation Guitar Hero will debut at the International Toy Fair, February 17th – 20th at the Javits Center, New York, NY. Basic Fun’s Guitar Hero Carabiner features a playable and portable take on the original Guitar Hero with a few noticeable differences. The first is the size – the Guitar Hero Carabiner, at about 75% the size of the original, measures 7 ¾” X 3”. The second is the price. Basic Fun’s Guitar Hero Carabiner retails for a suggested $14.99.
Cleverly designed, this miniature guitar houses all the electronics, including an LCD screen, in the body of the guitar. With no need for a gaming system or television, the Guitar Hero Carabiner is truly portable and can be played just about anywhere. Adding to the portability, the neck of the guitar folds down, making it pocket sized, measuring a mere 4” X 3”. You can also clip it onto a backpack or messenger bag with the built in carabiner located at the base of the guitar.
The game play is consistent with the original, with the object of the game being to “play” the song by hitting each note as it crosses the bottom of the screen. As you complete the riffs, the difficulty level increases, so the better you play, the harder it gets. To better catch the notes as they fall down the screen, the note buttons on the Guitar Hero Carabiner are located beneath the LCD screen, not in the neck of the guitar. Featured are 10 of the best riffs from Guitar Hero I and II, including Smoke on the Water, Rock this Town, Cherry Pie, Killer Queen, You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’, Miserlou, Heart Shaped Box, Message in a Bottle, Jessica, and Surrender. Other features include a “whammy bar” button for catching longer notes.
Basic Fun has worked with Activision and Red Octane, the game’s original developer, to bring the Guitar Hero experience to this unique, pocket sized format,” said Basic Fun President Alan Dorfman.
The Guitar Hero Carabiner is available at national retailers such as Target, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us and K-B Toys starting late February/early March, as well as specialty stores nationwide. As previously mentioned, the Guitar Hero Carabiner will retail for a suggested $14.99.
