AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB AGILITY™ GETS PETS AND THEIR OWNERS MOVING!
Malibu, CA – February 17, 2008 – JAKKS Pets™, the pet division of JAKKS Pacific, Inc. (Nasdaq: JAKK), expands its American Kennel Club®-branded product with AKC Agility™, a new line of active toys and accessories designed to challenge dogs and their owners while bringing them closer through athletic activity.
Rooted in the heritage and commitment long associated with the American Kennel Club to encourage responsible dog ownership.
AKC Agility products are an introduction to this enriching activity that is equally enjoyable for dogs and owners. AKC Agility products feature premium quality toys and accessories specifically designed for agility dog training while providing kids and adult pet owners with healthy outdoor activities. Getting pets up and moving also helps combat pet obesity rampant amongst household pets in the U.S.
“JAKKS recognizes the importance of providing products that address the special needs of dogs and their owners,” said Tony Lawlor, Senior Vice President, JAKKS Pets.
“With pet spending in 2007 estimated at $40.8 billion, up from $30.5 billion the previous year, pet
owners are more aware of their pet’s health than ever. Sophisticated shoppers will recognize the value
of the AKC Agility line to promote active play and interaction between pets and their owners.”
JAKKS’ AKC Agility line includes easy to set-up obstacle toys, plush toys, chew toys and a beginner’s
“how to” booklet comes with each product along with a DVD featuring an overview of the AKC’s Agility
program.
- AKC Agility obstacle and training toys feature simple assembly for beginners of agility training
with high quality construction and durability. The AKC Agility Weave Posts are a set of
connected poles that dogs must learn to weave through (SRP $49.99). The AKC Agility Tunnel
features an entrance ring and a fabric-covered tunnel to help train dogs to find and feel their
way to the exit (SRP $45.99). The AKC Agility Tire Jump (SPR $35.99) and Bar Jump (SRP
$35.99) feature adjustable heights for dogs to jump over and through.
- AKC Agility chew toys (SRP $7.99) include the Berber Chew, Recycled Rope Tug and
Knobby Football, all of which are designed to be sturdy and resilient to endure even the most
rough and tumble play.
“AKC Agility is the fastest growing dog sport in the U.S. It’s one of the most enjoyable activities you can
participate in with your dog and also one of the most exciting for spectators to watch.” said Dennis
Sprung, President and CEO of the American Kennel Club. “Our AKC National Agility Invitational is
nationally televised and each year we sanction thousands of local trials that pet owners can aspire to
compete in. The AKC Agility line from JAKKS will make this activity accessible to all dog owners via
well-priced and high quality products.”
JAKKS Pets expects to launch AKC Agility at mass retailers nationwide in Spring – the peak agility
season.
