PBS KIDS GO! Triples Online Video Viewership with Panache

LOS ANGELES --(Business Wire)-- May 20, 2009 PBS and Panache, the platform for major media and entertainment companies, today announced integration of Panache’s platform into PBS’s video management system, allowing PBS producers to place interactive game elements within any video content. Games run directly inside the PBS KIDS GO! video player based on Adobe® Flash® technology, combining interactive, multi-media elements with curriculum-based content to foster greater learning comprehension for early elementary school children.

"With Panache’s execution and technology, we’ve created an enriching and engaging experience for children to further their learning by interacting with their favorite video series through in-video games," said Silvia Lovato, director, PBS KIDS GO! Interactive. “The success of this relationship is evidenced by the incredible boost of viewership the videos with in-video games have had since we’ve premiered them.”

The PBS KIDS GO! video player offers hundreds of video clips and dozens of full-length episodes, using video solutions based on the Adobe Flash platform, the number one platform for video on the Web. With its enhanced video content and interactive games, the KIDS GO! site has been streaming more than one million clips each week since its September launch, with interactive clips receiving triple the views and longer engagement times than videos without the interactivity.

"As a leader in educational programming, PBS KIDS GO! is constantly striving for new and innovative ways to infuse their premium content with engaging and interactive elements,” said Steve Robinson, Panache’s president. “With the Panache platform, PBS KIDS GO! is now enriching their media offerings through scalable and customizable content enhancements. We look forward to continuing our relationship with PBS—the gold standard in television programming—and helping them extend value and audience reach for their popular educational content online.”

The Panache platform enables PBS KIDS GO! producers to assign and schedule game content over specific broadband videos dynamically within their content management system. Panache’s customizable and in-depth reporting capabilities allow PBS KIDS GO! to track how effective their interactive elements are at guiding users through a lesson, and how well their audience performed actions within the games. The detailed tracking and reporting Panache provides allows PBS KIDS GO! producers to create more intuitive and effective experiences with new episodic content, increasing viewership, audience engagement and creating a viral component for the videos.

“We are pleased that PBS and Panache chose the Adobe Flash Platform to create PBS KIDS GO!, which offers children compelling and creative new ways to learn online,” said Ashley Still, group product manager for Flash Media Solutions at Adobe. “With the PBS KIDS GO! site, PBS and Panache are leveraging the ubiquity of Adobe Flash Player to engage the broadest possible audience of children to foster greater learning comprehension.”

Due to the “author once, deploy many times” capabilities of the Panache solution, PBS KIDS GO! is able to syndicate their in-video game content to their local member station sites or any other distribution partners in the future. The first series adding the Panache-enabled game interactivity to online videos include ARTHUR, FETCH! WITH RUFF RUFFMAN, CYBERCHASE and WORDGIRL. THE ELECTRIC COMPANY and other series will feature this new gaming option in the coming months.
