My daughter’s request for Halloween this year was to be a princess and she wanted her dress to have a train.
We found an old fashioned blue bridesmaid dress with a train at our local thrift store for $15. The dress was a lady’s size 11/12 and my daughter wears a child’s 6.
I took up the side seams and with a few minor alterations (I can only sew a straight line), the dress turned out beautifully. I added a piece of gauzy material left over from a Jeannie costume to the neckline and I think it turned out beautifully.
This was cheaper than a costume from Wal-Mart and everyone thought I’d spent way too much until I told them.
